I’m Greg David — a children’s book illustrator and longtime animation artist based in the coastal countryside of south‑west Wales.
I’ve been drawing since my early childhood, when rainy days (which we get a lot in Wales) meant drawing quirky pictures on whatever scraps of paper I could find, or poring over the illustrations in books at home or in our village library.
On the occasional sunny days I'd be out having adventures in the surrounding countryside with my siblings.
Throughout my teens I kept drawing, and attended art college in Cardiff for a year before deciding to study animation at what is now the Arts University Bournemouth, under the tutorage of Professor Peter Parr. After graduating I built a career in animation, working on two series for Chinese State TV which attracted 40m viewers. In 2007 I founded Planet Sunday, my studio that produced award‑winning content for TV, DVD, and YouTube for over a decade. After 12 years running the studio, I returned to illustration full‑time to bring those characters to life on the page.
Throughout that journey, I never lost my love for children’s books. All these years later I’m still working on creating characters with a bit of cheekiness, plenty of heart, and emotionally safe personalities that young readers can truly connect with. Here on my website, you’ll find a portfolio shaped by my imagination, as well as the landscapes and wildlife of Wales.
